Cephalon (CEPH) shares are falling today on disappointing results from a drug to treat pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus. The results come a week after a lupus drug Cephalon had an option to develop showed disappointing results.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAC) hiked its 12-month S&P 500 target as well as its outlook on oil prices today. BofA Merrill boosted its S&P outlook by 75 points, to 1,275.

Merck (MRK) announced today a district court judge in Texas dismissed all claims in a state Vioxx-related lawsuit. The case was filed in 2005 by the Texas Attorney General’s office seeking damages from Merck for allegedly violating the Texas Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act.

Ciena (CIEN) beat out a rival bid from joint venture Nokia Siemens Networks (NOK, SI) in an auction to acquire Nortel Networks' ethernet business for $769 million. Ciena’s offer totals $530 million in cash and $239 million in convertible notes.
