A local family is still trying to dry out after a water main break damaged its home. Jeff Mohr and his family live near R.D. Mize Road in Independence. On Tuesday afternoon, a five-foot crack in a six-inch water main sent water smashing into the siding. The water peeled paint, knocked off gutters and soaked the inside of the home. Mohr's wife had just walked past the bubbling main when it blew. "She just made it through the front door when she heard a loud boom, and there was just water going everywhere. It ran on the house for 35 minutes," Jeff Mohr said. A city representative said there is usually a 25-foot utility setback from the property, but it wasn't possible for a house on a corner in a cul-de-sac. The representative said there have been other water line breaks in the area, but nothing as bad as at the Mohrs'. The Mohrs are trying to dry the place out. They've pulled the soaked Sheetrock, and the insulation in the ceiling is probably ruined.
