In the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Eastern European started to sense a revolution, more so as the Soviet Union started to lose its grip as the regional power. The peak of the Romanian Revolution was highlighted by the takedown of Communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Ceausescu was one of the more brutal dictators as he imposed strict laws including forbidding Romanians from contact with any foreigners, wiretapping phones at will, censoring all press and media outlets, and imprisoning any potential elements of resistance. Thousands of Romanians stormed the communist headquarters in Bucharest on December 21st, 1989. In one of the more memorable moments of Communism's last breaths, Ceausescu waved his arms in an undecipherable manner in response to the relentless boos from the crowd.
