Queuing for clean water in the Myanmar city of Yangon. Disease, hunger and thirst are the new threats here following a deadly cyclone that's killed some 22,500 and left 41,000 missing. The United Nations World Food Programme has given out emergency rice but a lack of specialised equipment has slowed its distribution. International agencies and governments have urged the country's reclusive military rulers to open its doors to relief and waive visa requirement for aid workers. Neighbouring Thailand is preparing rapid medical teams to help rescue operations. Hundreds of thousands are now homeless in the swamplands of the rice growing delta southwest of Yangon. Some villages there have been virtually destroyed and military helicopters have dropped food and bottled water to survivors. The U.N. food agency has warned that the storm damage could squeeze the world rice market which is already under pressure over supply concerns. Rising prices will not help the people of Yangon...
