On December 27, 2006, 25 year old Robbie Simpson died from a gunshot wound to the head. Law enforcement officials were told by the only other person present at the time of the shooting that Robbie had shot himself. There was no crime scene or forensics investigation and not one of the law enforcement officials on the scene took the time to question the only other person who was present at the time of the shooting, one "Reverend" William "Buck" Winchester. The family immediately knew something was wrong and they took it upon themselves to conduct their own investigation.Through multiple "Freedom of Information Act" requests the family acquired all of the relevant documentation and reports surround this case. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see that the Sheriffs department did not conduct a proper investigation. The acting "detective" on the scene wasn't even a trained detective. He was "filling in" that night. The reports were also riddled with contradictions. At this point the family decided they needed some professional help and guidance, so they hired a private investigator, Herbert Welser, Jr.Mr. Welser immediately uncovered that "Buck" had a long history of violence and alcohol abuse. Also, his "Reverend" title was acquired through an online purchase. Armed with this information, the family went back and presented the investigators report to local law enforcement officials in the hopes that they would get the case reopened. That was not to be the case.Try as they might the family was told, over and over again, that there was no "evidence" that this was homocide. Fed up with going through the proper channels only to be denied justice and lied to, the family went to the media to get their story out to the public. The local newspaper, The Times Herald, began writing stories about the case. Then an investigator with Detroit's WXYZ 7 Action News team, Mr. Bill Proctor, began an investigation of the case. This is that report. This was the first victory for the family, but they are far from finished with this case.
