Japanese Celebrate Vine Festival

It is not Sundance, Cannes or one of the other A-list international film festivals, but the New Latin American Cinema Festival in Cuba is widely credited with launching some of the most controversial and stunning films from Latin America and the Caribbean. This festival is now in its 28th year and as usual is expected to draw over half a million film buffs into the capital of Havana. Nobel Prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez turned out for the opening. Marquez has also been in town to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cuba's San Antonio de los Banos International School of Film and Television which he helped found. Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly, Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada and other government dignitaries also hit the red carpet, but their leader Fidel Castro was not even expected. Despite previously being a regular at the fest, the Cuban leader has not been seen in public since July after he underwent intestinal surgery and even failed to make an appearance at a recent military parade to mark his 80th birthday. Yet the mood was still upbeat - the festival is the one time in the year when hundreds of international films are screened in the tiny communist country and is widely popular with the locals. The festival's president Alfredo Guevarra was the man to officially herald the opening of the event. Some of the Japanese girls from my college put on a show at the International Festival at East High School. I went to the International Festival in my town, had some Japanese food had some weird French desert, and some weird African smoothy (all of which were delicious) and then sat down and watched the dance performances after looking around at all the shops.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem leads a campaign to grant to the Western Sahara Polisario independence movement diplomatic status in order to find a solution for the ongoing humanitarian crisis affecting the former Spanish colony. Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem launched on Monday (May 5) a campaign petitioning for the Spanish government to recognise the diplomatic status of the Western Sahara's Polisario independence movement. Bardem's campaign aims to encourage talks between Polisario and Morocco in an effort to stop an ongoing humanitarian crisis of Western Sahara refugees in Algeria. "The situation worsens year by year, the peace process is blocked and that affects specially the weakest people: children, women and elderly people," said Bardem who recently took part in the Sahara International Film festival and visited the Dakhla refugee camp in Tindouf in Algeria. Fatimetu Macki, a former Sahrawi refugee who took part in the campaign launching, told Reuters: "I ask that the world, the whole world, understands the problems of the Sahrawis and for them to get the Moroccans to understand that they should give us what is due to us." Morocco took control of most of Western Sahara in 1975 when the colonial power Spain withdrew, prompting a guerrilla war for independence that lasted until 1991 when the United Nations brokered a ceasefire and sent in peacekeepers. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (en japonais : 東京スカパラダイスオーケストラ) est un groupe de ska-jazz japonais (aussi appelé TSPO ou ska para). Il fut formé en 1985, en regroupant des amis de lycée par Asa-Chang, qui quittera le groupe en 1993. Le groupe a changé de nombreuses fois de membres, jusqu'à atteindre une forme plus stable. Les musiciens suivants en représentent le noyau dur : Oki Yuichi, Gamo, Kawakami Tsuyoshi, Yanaka Atushi et Hiyamuta Tatsuyuki. Sommaire [masquer] The Fuji Rock Festival is an annual rock festival held in Naeba ski resort, in Niigata Prefecture, Japan. The 3 day event, organized by Smash Japan, features more than 200 Japanese and international musicians making it the largest outdoor music event in Japan. In 2005, more than 100,000 people attended the festival. Fuji Rock Festival is named so because the first event, in 1997, was held on the footslopes of Mount Fuji. Its current home in Naeba is nowhere near Mt Fuji, but the name remains. The festival was originally inspired by Britain's Glastonbury Festival, and the line up focuses on international and non-mainstream modern Japanese music in comparison to other Japanese music festivals.
