A local fire department wants to collect tons of food for local food pantries over the next few days. The crew members of the Carpio Fire Department are hoping the annual visit by the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train this weekend will lead to a big haul for food pantries. The train brings entertainment and, of course, Santa, through our area on Sunday, stopping in Harvey, Minot, and Carpio on Sunday, and in Portal on Monday. Carpio Fire Chief Kalvin Myers is challenging other area fire departments to collect as much food as possible - and to try to beat his department's efforts. He says if you want to help, look for food donation bins around Carpio - or simply bring a donation to the Holiday Train on Sunday night in Carpio. (Kalvin Myers, Carpio Fire Chief) We're going to have a fire truck up there and if people will bring canned goods or anything, we'll have a truck sitting there and they can put canned goods in and then watch the train because they'll stop right on Main Street here...
