The arrest of former General Vang Pao, the most prominent Hmong leader of our time, on charges of plotting to overthrow the Laos People Democratic Republic government, one of the remaining dictatorship regimes in the world -- whether the charge against him is true or not remains unclear. What remains clear to us is, he is a highly moral and selfless individual who will go to a great link to find peace, justice, freedom, and democracy for his people. Let us not forget that the reason we gather here today on these steps in the State Capitol of Lansing, MI is not to protest the U.S. government or to condone violence. We are here because we want to appeal to the United States local, state, and federal officials and to the mainstream public that General Vang Pao is a man with an incredible history with respect to freedom and democracy.
