The Pittsburgh Penguins looked to erase painful memories of a 4-0 shaming by the Detroit Red Wings with a game 2 victory on Monday night at Joe Louis Arena. At the other end of the ice, the Wings were hoping to grab a 2-0 series lead when the series shifts to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Scoring early on a slapshot from the right circle, Brad Stuart got the Red Wings on the board early in the first period. Tomas Holmstrom soon extended the lead by a goal, tapping a stalled puck across the line behind Fleury. Detroit continued to stifle the Penguin offense through the second, limiting them to just six shots in each of the first two periods. The third period unfolded much the same way, with the Red Wings dominating puck possession, and the Penguins struggling to manufacture offense.
