SHREWSBURY (WBZ)  The admitted killer of a Shrewsbury police officer has been granted parole - on his sixth attempt. Edgar Bowser shot patrolman James Lonchiadis in the heart near the Worcester City Motel on March 5, 1975 while stealing a car. Bowser was 16 years old at the time. Lonchiadis was 28. He left behind a wife and two young children at the time. One of them is now a Shrewsbury police officer. Bowser pleaded guilty months later to second-degree murder. He's spent nearly 32 years in prison and lost five previous parole bids. His sixth try came Oct. 2. Tuesday afternoon, the Parole Board released its decision, voting 5-to-1 in favor of his release with conditions. He will have to serve six months in a minimum security prison and then six months-to-a-year in a transitional home before he can be released.
