This is where children go to school now in China's Sichuan province, temporary classrooms in the open air. Thousands of schools were either damaged or collapsed in the recent earthquake that devastated the region and killed over 62,000 people. Parents of children who died when schools fell down believe authorities cut corners and failed to meet building safety standards. Now the country's Education Ministry has admitted design problems added to the tragic loss of life. Of course, the buildings also had design defects, which is they did not have quake-proof design." Central government has launched an investigation into why so many public buildings collapsed while others survived.
