City bus fares for Tirana will cost more Starting January 2008, inner city bus fares for Tirana will cost more. The new fares will cost 300 lek, from 200 that they cost today. Demands, and frequent threats, of the private companies, seem to have found some support from the government. Within the month of December Ministry of Transport and that of Finances, will draw a draft, which will be presented to the cabinet for approval, regarding this issue. Transport companies argue that the always rising diesel prices, are drilling a hole into their finances. A group of experts will also meet to discuss the informality that has taken over this sector. One of the biggest problems remains the fake bus passes, and also the high number of invalids and senior citizens, who ride for free. In fact their buss fare is to be reimbursed by the government, but as of today no government institution, city hall, or ministry has paid the private companies a single penny.
