A 16-year-old driver who led police on a crashing, high-speed police chase in Frenchtown was charged with eluding police and driving without a license on Tuesday. Frenchtown police said they responded to a disturbance report at the Frenchtown mall, and when they arrived, they found a car recklessly exiting the parking lot. The vehicle fled southbound on North Monroe Street when the officer tried to stop the car. A Michigan State Police officer joined the pursuit and chased the vehicle for miles before the driver ran over some poles and came to a crashing halt, said police. The driver and two of the passengers fled the vehicle on foot and were later arrested, according to police. An 18-year-old female passenger did not flee from the police. She was brought in for questioning and later released. One of the passengers had a felony warrant out for his arrest.
